Shopping is an integral part of life in China. So many people enjoy browsing in the shops or department stores. But what if you see something to buy, and need to try it on? Can you ask the shop assistant for more details?

A-您好,我能试一下这两件么?Nín hǎo, wǒ néng shì yīxià zhè liǎng jiàn me?

Hello, can I try these two?

B-好。您穿多大的?Hǎo. Nín chuān duōdà de?

Yes, which size?

A-我穿小号。Wǒ chuān xiǎo hào.

I wear a small size.

B-好。给。试衣间在这里。Hǎo. Gěi. Shì yī jiān zài zhèlǐ.

Okay, here you are. The fitting room is there.

B-怎么样,合适么?Zěnme yàng, héshì ma?

How are they? Do you like them?

A-唉不合适。这条裙子太长了,这件上衣我穿上不好看。Āi bù héshì. Zhè tiáo qúnzi tài zhǎngle, zhè jiàn shàngyī wǒ chuān shàng bù hǎokàn.

Ah, no. The skirt is too long. This top does not look good on me.

B-那……试试这件夹克吧。这是新款。Nà……shì shì zhè jiàn jiákè ba. Zhè shì xīnkuǎn.

Then….how about this jacket? It’s a new arrival.

A-这件挺漂亮。那我去试试。Zhè jiàn tǐng piàoliang. Nà wǒ qù shì shì.

That looks good. Let me have a try.

Cultural note: In China, except for in the shops of some international brands, many clothes shops will not accept a return of clothes or other products. Or, if they do, it’s a hassle to return goods. Make sure you are buying suitable items or double check the shop’s policy.
